Okay friends ... here's one that is very accessable for beginning bluesers ... and very rewarding in the long run for mor advanced players, becasue it can be used as an accompaniment to lots of 12 bar blues songs ... or as lead/solo within a blues tune.

What we're doing here is imitating the boogie of early "stride" piano players, ie., a steady walking bass, with interesting melodies in the treble.

In this case, we have the melody in the bass, and the chords in the treble.

You can play with a flatpick and use down (bass) and up (treble) ... or if you want to play with your fingers nd/or a thumbpick ... you can play down with the thumb or thumbpick and up with you index finger brushing all the treble notes at once ... or down with your thumb/thumbpick and use your index/middle/third finger to pluck up on the treble strings simultaneously.

Like always ... play it slow until you learn all the notes ... then pick up speed as you feel more confident ... this should sound just fine played slowly and soulfully ... and at fast tempos, as well.

This is a superb exercise for blues beginners ... and should offer some interesting ideas to build on for intemediate players.

Once you can play this in the key of G ... don't be lazy ... teach yourself to play through all the chord changes in every key by fingering the chords and finding the appropriate bass notes.

Enjoy the boogie.

BG,

As always ... my pleasure.

Get this boogie down in G ... and then move on to teach yourself to play it in all keys ... it's not difficult ... and you can use the accompaniment for gospel songs, too ... and lots of songs that are not necessarily blues ... songs that don't use the 12-bar blues form (I-IV-I-V-IV-I).
Enjoy.

Cheers,

Hawkeye

jaycee,

I'm happy to hear that these posts are useful to you ... if something is unclear, or you have a 'problem' in regard to these 'lessons' ... let me know.

My goals are to 'demystify' the music for beginners ... and to help aid intermediate players in getting out of the corners they have painted themselves into by giving them new ideas and tools to help them from playing the same old thing that they've been playing for so long.

Thanks again,

Hawkeye
